Depicting the Silent Impacts of Sexual Assault

More than 400,000 people are sexually assaulted each year in America alone. Yet fewer than 25% of cases are ever reported. Many people never tell anyone beyond their closest friends what happened to them. Some never share their stories at all, and may sit in silence for years, decades, or a lifetime. But everyone who has experienced sexual assault is impacted by it.

The Impact Project is working to create a visual representation of the silent impacts of sexual assault built from the collective voices of people who have experienced this type of trauma. Our focus for this project is not on the act of sexual assault itself. Our focus is on the impact this act has on the life that must carry on after it has been committed, and on the healing potential, hope and connection that is possible when people join their voices to create something meaningful together.
